Melissa Long Therapies
Hi, my name is Melissa Long. I am a Senior Accredited Brandon Bays Journey Practitioner and I am passionate about Journey work. I have been practising it since 2001 and it still astounds me to witness the dramatic transformation that occurs in most people following a process.
I have had a lifelong interest in holistic therapies that began with my training as an NFSH (National Federation of Spiritual Healers) healer. Prior to starting a family I worked as an NNEB (National Nursery Examination Board) nursery nurse with pre-school children and after having a child of my own, I embarked upon a degree course in psychology and early childhood studies. This, along with my experience as a mother, has proved invaluable when giving Journey processes to children and teenagers.
My life has been very rich and varied in terms of the challenges I have experienced. I grew up in a dysfunctional family in which I soon learned not to expect my needs to be met.
The feelings of worthlessness I felt as a child were re-enforced in a very unhappy marriage and after years of feeling unfulfilled, I eventually became ill. It began in 2001 when I noticed a pea-sized lump over one of my breasts. Although reassured that it was harmless, it was surgically removed anyway. To my horror I was told two weeks later, following a biopsy, that it was cancerous.
This initially threw me into huge fear and turmoil so I began to seek out answers from my own research. As I became more knowledgeable, the fear gave way to empowerment and optimism. I decided to tackle the cancer without the use of drugs or radiotherapy. Instead I sought out holistic therapists specialising in cancer to support me whilst monitoring the level of my recovery with the use of tumour marker blood tests.
This is what led me to the Brandon Bays Journey work. Whilst reading Brandon’s first book The Journey about her recovery from cancer I had an inner knowing that this work would help me. I then experienced the immense power of the work by attending a series of workshops led by Brandon herself. Pretty soon I was hooked and decided to train to be a practitioner. Towards the end of my training I was finally told that the breast cancer had gone, and I feel that all the emotional clearing I underwent during this period was a contributory factor in my recovery.
During these years of recovery I found myself evolving on every level and seemed to gain access to the pure essence of my soul. I witnessed many changes in myself, some dramatic and some more subtle. Eventually I realised that I was living my life as an expression of my authentic self without fear of disapproval or judgement.
It soon became clear that I could no longer exist in my unfulfilling marriage and after twenty-five years, I somehow found the courage to begin divorce proceedings. It turned out to be one of the most challenging episodes of my life. However I am now very grateful for this experience as apart from liberating me, it also led to another huge period of growth and learning which has been invaluable when helping others through a similar set of circumstances.
